2011 Governor’s Arts Award winner Louis Copt to give painting demonstration at Spencer

Lawrence, KS, January 20, 2011 – Louis Copt, one of five Kansans named as recipients of the 2011 Governor’s Arts Awards, will discuss his working methods, materials used, and philosophy in choosing subject matter during a 6:30 PM painting demonstration in the Central Court of the Spencer Museum of Art on Thursday, January 27. The event is free and open to the public.

Spencer Student Advisory Board to co-host Student Night at Kansas City’s Kemper Museum

Lawrence, KS, February 14, 2011  – On Friday, Feb. 18, for the second time in recent years, students from the Spencer Museum of Art’s Student Advisory Board (SAB) will team with Kansas City’s Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art co-host a DJ-fueled, art-centered party at the Kemper, and the SAB is making it easy for KU students to join in the fun by providing free bus transportation.

Cryptographs! Family Day at the Spencer

Lawrence, KS, June 17, 2012 – The Spencer Museum of Art will celebrate Father’s Day by offering one of its always popular Family Days from 1-3 PM on Sunday, June 17. “Cryptographs!” invites families to spend a captivating and fun-filled afternoon discovering a world of hidden secrets, puzzles, and cryptographs in the Museum’s collection and a special exhibition honoring Alan Turing (1912-1954), the brilliant British mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst, and pioneering computer scientist.

Spencer to screen acclaimed Alan Turing docu-drama

Lawrence, KS, June 20, 2012 – In honor of Alan Turing’s upcoming centenary, the Spencer this Wednesday evening will screen Codebreaker, a critically acclaimed docu-drama about the highs and lows of Turing's fascinating life. Yarn Bombing” ignites SMA entrance

Lawrence, KS, June 27, 2012 – A squadron of snuggly snails currently occupies a bench near the Spencer Museum of Art's front entrance. While "snuggly" and "snails" may seem contradictory terms, in this case they're not--these snails are of the subgenus Helix soft and crocheted. And they fit right in with the colorful yarn flowers currently blooming in the Museum's central greenspace.
