IARI Undergraduate Research Fellow Application Information

Application Deadline for Spring 2018:

Monday, November 6, 2017

Column Data

The Spencer Museum of Art offers one Undergraduate Research Fellowship per semester in conjunction with the Integrated Arts Research Initiative (IARI) . The IARI fellow may come from many different disciplines and backgrounds in order to cultivate and mentor a diverse generation of future museum professionals. Undergraduate fellowships allow KU students just beginning their careers to work alongside more advanced researchers and contribute to their interdisciplinary projects. The undergraduate fellows work closely with the Museum’s staff and are integrated into the intellectual life of the Museum. Student fellows contribute to specific Museum research projects with guidance and supervision from the lead researcher(s) and the assistant curator for research. They are also encouraged to develop their own projects that further advance IARI ideas and/or connect with the Museum’s collections or other resources. Student fellows who propose independent research topics would be advised to seek further support through awards offered by the University’s Office of Undergraduate Research, among other sources.

Undergraduate Research Fellows are also expected to contribute to the Museum’s online research platform in the form of blog entries, video, images, PDF publications, and the like, depending on the research project and process. Research projects may also be presented in the form of a “dossier exhibition” in the Spencer Museum’s Center for Learning. As compensation, the IARI Undergraduate Research Fellow will receive a stipend of $1,000 for a one-semester term.
