The Spencer Museum of Art offers a variety of enjoyable and interesting opportunities from greeting visitors to giving tours, from cataloging new acquisitions to helping with children's art classes.
We are always seeking to expand our volunteer staff with smart, curious, creative individuals.
Volunteers receive training and orientation to ensure the best possible experience.
Greet visitors, answer questions, give directions and provide information about the collection and special exhibitions.
Assist with preparation and execution of Museum Special Events, exhibition openings, receptions, and other special activities.
Assist staff with organization of files, day-to-day operations, and data entry relating to various museum activities.
Supervise and assist teachers during class tours and art demonstrations. Help prepare and set up materials before class. Help with clean up after class.
KU students meet, plan, design and participate in student activities each semester.
Enhance the exhibition experience for tour groups of all ages. A background in art history or teaching is helpful, but not required. Learn about modern and contemporary art and museum tour techniques.
Assist with planning and organizing museum events and programs. Write, design and produce educational materials. Length of projects vary six to ten hours per week for three to six weeks. Gain experience and expand your resume.
