The collection of drawings and watercolors includes works from the late Middle Ages to the present. American drawings are especially well represented, with important holdings by Thomas Hart Benton, John Steuart Curry, Winslow Homer, Georgia O’Keeffe, Abraham Walkowitz, Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann, and H.C. Westermann. The museum also houses a large collection of magazine work for Esquire, including works on paper by Alberto Vargas and Chesley Bonestell.
