Christ Carrying the Cross
Museum purchase, 53.15

The unidentified artist who painted Christ Carrying the Cross was a follower of Giorgio Vasari. Vasari was a painter from near Florence who is better known as the biographer of all the major Italian artists from the 14th century to his own lifetime in the 16th century.

The Middle Ages and Renaissance in Europe manifest far more varieties of experience, events, and art than can be described in a brief gallery guide. You can see other aspects of these times in works of art not discussed in this guide. For more information, refer to the Suggested Readings.
