The Spencer Museum of Art is widely considered to be one of the top university art museums in the country, housing a diverse permanent collection with nearly 36,000 works, along with rotating exhibitions.
The Spencer Museum is located in the back of the Kansas Union, at 1301 Mississippi.
Tuesday – Saturday: 10 AM to 5 PM
Thursday: 10 AM to 9 PM
Sunday: Noon to 5 PM
Closed Mondays

Mission Statement
The Spencer Museum of Art Student Advisory Board at The University of Kansas serves as the liaison between KU students and the Spencer Museum of Art. Comprising students from diverse disciplines, levels and courses of study, the SMA Student Advisory Board commits to the following agenda:
- Collaborating with museum staff to design and implement student-run programming and events at the SMA
- Proving inroads for all students seeking greater contact with the SMA
- Innovating new avenues, approaches and directions for the SMA
- Expanding our knowledge of art, and art history, through visits to the galleries and print room, discussions of current art trends and a weekly arts radio show on the campus radio station
- Engendering an environment of fellowship and common interest in the arts
