Mission-in-Brief
The Spencer Museum of Art (SMA) explores the capacity of art to spark curiosity, inspire creativity, and create connections among people.

Mission:
The Spencer Museum of Art sustains a diverse, global collection of art and visual culture to encourage interdisciplinary inquiry and to explore the ways in which people make and express meaning at the intersection of art, ideas, and experience. Engaging with these collections, the context of their creation, and their evolving cultural relevance, SMA sparks curiosity, inspires creativity, and creates provocative connections involving art, artists, scholars, students, alumni, staff, and the public. The Spencer strengthens the academic research and teaching of the University of Kansas and is committed to serving communities of learners across Kansas and beyond.
