This exhibition features objects from the Spencer Museum of Art’s collection and is organized by the Watkins Community Museum of History.
La Calavera Catrina: Women’s Imagery and Day of the Dead examines the art and images of women who celebrate the Latin American traditions of Día de los Muertos. Featuring a variety of hand-crafted objects on loan from the Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas, this exhibition traces the representation and role of women in Día de los Muertos commemorations. Community members will be invited to add an ofrenda, a tribute to a loved one, to the museum’s community altar. Open October 26, 2012- December 21, 2012.
