Gift of Steven Schmidt, Class of 1958, 1998.0708 Frances Palmer was born in Leicester, England, and studied drawing at a girls' school in Leicester. ( Rubenstein) She became an important designer of lithographs for the New York lithographic firm of Nathaniel Currier (Currier & Ives, after 1857), which produced more than 7000 prints during the second half of the nineteenth century. They were produced in enormous editions and enjoyed great popularity as affordable decoration for the home. American Farm Scenes, no. 3 is an autumn scene from a series of the four seasons. Sources
