Loan: Collection of Steven Schmidt Nesbitt was born in McAlester, Oklahoma, and was a student of Thomas Hart Benton and John deMartelly at the Kansas City Art Institute (North, 81, and Retif and Salzer) Nesbitt notes, “This was a real barn located outside Independence, Missouri where they auctioned milk cows and pigs. The Coca Cola bottle did not appear in either the painting or the first proof, but I thought that shelf needed something and Coke was it.” (Retif and Salzer, no. 37) Sources
