Remembering the Family Farm

150 Years of American Prints

Barnyard Gate by Roger Medearis
Roger Medearis United States, 1920-2001
Barnyard Gate, 1990
Lithograph and acrylic

Collection of Steven Schmidt Medearis was born in Fayette, Missouri. He studied at the Kansas City Art Institute with Thomas Hart Benson and John S. deMartelly. He has worked in his San Marino, California, studio from 1982 until his death in 2001. (North, 78) There are several noteworthy aspects of this farm. The function of the small room to the right of this silo is uncertain but it could be a feed room where one could fork out feed from the silo, possibly dropping it into a wagon backed into the opening below (Flory & Fishburn). The small building covered with tar paper at the right is probably a milking shed. (visitor comments) Sources
