Spencer Museum of Art: Gift of Mrs. Arthur Hall in memory of her husband, 1981.0099 Haystacks could become quite large with the use of derricks, like the one seen to the right in this print. Haystacks were sometimes covered with a mat of “slew grass” or marsh grass, that would be tied down to protect the hay. There is no longer any practical use for slew grass on contemporary farms (Flory & Fishburn). Sources
