Born in the Brooklyn, New York, Arnold is most frequently associated with the Woodstock Artists' Association in Woodstock, New York, where he was an instructor in lithography from 1932-1940. This scene shows a decentralized farm with a variety of outbuildings, each with a special function. These include a smokehouse, poultry housing, implement shed, and barn.
