The Spencer Student Advisory Board at The University of Kansas serves as the liaison between KU students and the Spencer Museum of Art. Comprising students from diverse disciplines, levels and courses of study, the SSAB commits to the following agenda:
The theme for this year’s Juried Student Art Show is Constructing Reality. This theme is inspired by the James Turrell: Gard Blue exhibition currently on view at the Spencer. This year’s theme is based on a quote from Turrell: “My work is about how we construct reality,” he has said. “The real illusion is that we aren’t aware of how we give reality to things. We have awarded them concreteness or reality and are unaware of how we’ve done that.”
Please submit works of art that play on the theme of Constructing Reality. $1000 is available in prizes. Due to space limitations, only 2-dimensional and animated works of art will be accepted.
During KU fall and spring semesters, the SSAB meets on alternating Thursdays at 5:30pm in the SMA Reception Room (enter the SMA, turn right, last door at the end of the hallway).
