The Max Kade - Erich H. Markel Department of Graphic Arts at the Spencer Museum of Art houses nearly ten thousand works of art on paper (prints, drawings, photographs, and artists' books). The core of our old master collection of prints was given by the Max Kade Foundation, whose president at the time of the gift was the late Erich H. Markel.
The Photography Collection at the Spencer Museum of Art houses more than 4,500 photographic works including daguerreotypes, tin types, ambrotypes, platinum prints, gelatin silver prints, and chromogenic color prints. The collection has particular depth in works by Diane Arbus, William Edgerton, and Aaron Siskind.
Want to see etchings by Kiki Smith or photographs by Aaron Siskind? Each Friday the Spencer opens its Print Room for requests. Interested persons should simply visit the Print Room where you can view prints, drawings, artists' books, and photographs from the collection.
