    Conversation VI: Unbinding the Fetish
What is a fetish? How has the meaning of the term changed in our contemporary world? How do our perceptions of fetishes infuence our interactions with the material world, other people, and even ourselves? Drawing on works from the Spencer’s permanent collection, Conversation VI: Unbinding the Fetish examines evolving perspectives on the fetish by exploring the relationship between the body and the object.

    Conversation V: Alternate Realities
Is a photograph real? What about a Realist painting? Would you categorize an online virtual world as reality? What about the learning or the human interactions which take place within that world?

    Conversation IV: Construction/Destruction
What is it that we destroy when we construct, and what do we construct when we destroy? Whether we are eating an apple, throwing out garbage, drafting an essay for class, or building a birdhouse, our activities are in a constant flux of creation and destruction. Often these events are part of the natural patchwork of life; other times, however, they are powerful experiences that affect us deeply.

    Conversation III: Connections in Place
Albert Bloch, Robert Sudlow, and Keith Jacobshagen were chosen for this conversation because their art and lives respond to our theme, Connections in Place, in multiple ways. Albert Bloch was a teacher of Robert Sudlow, who was a teacher of Keith Jacobshagen. These relationships begin in Lawrence, Kansas, and they resonate in other places and spaces.

    Conversation II: Place – Kansas
These eight conversations present the work of artists who engage Kansas in their creative process. Individuals from the KU and Lawrence communities have responded to each artist, and to his or her work. We invite you to reflect on these conversations and to engage in them yourself. What are your own conversations with the place called Kansas?
